The 1987 Sino-Indian skirmish occurred at Sumdorong Chu Valley. This was the second conflict between the PRC and India, with the previous one taking place a quarter of a century earlier.

The skirmish happened on the McMahon Line, which has marked the border of Tibet and India since 1914. Tibet has been occupied by China since 1951 and China disagrees with the line.
