6IX RISING: Toronto’s Rap Ascendence is a Canadian documentary movie. It was released on November 16, 2017.[1] It was directed by Shawney Cohen and produced by Lauren Sing and Jade Smith.[2]
The documentary focuses on the hip hop scene that is growing in the city of Toronto after the success of artists like Drake and The Weeknd, as well as, the unique challenges that artists in the city face while trying to rise to stardom. Artists involved in the documentary include Pressa as he deals with legal issues and goes on tour with Drake, as well as, the creation of the "6ix" nickname for Toronto by rapper Jimmy Prime.[3]
