Alexander McQueen is a fashion house founded by Alexander McQueen in 1992.[1]
History
The fashion house was founded by Alexander McQueen in 1992[2]. His debut collection, Taxi Driver, referenced the Martin Scorsese film of the same name. Each subsequent show was characterized by a highly theatrical approach, which, combined with the design, caused great controversy. This became the hallmark of the brand.
In 2001, the fashion house joined the Gucci Group (now Kering Group)[3]. McQueen later sold a 51% stake in the company.
In 2006, the house's prêt-à-porter brand, McQ, debuted. The line was aimed at young people.[4]
In February 2010, Alexander McQueen committed suicide. His longtime collaborator, Sarah Burton, was appointed creative director.[5]
In October 2023, Seán McGirr was appointed creative director.[6]
