Alireza Zakani (Persian: علیرضا زاکانی, born 3 March 1966) is an Iranian conservative politician who is currently serving as mayor of Tehran since 2021. He was a member of the Parliament of Iran from 2004 to 2016 and also from 2020 to 2021. He owns Jahan News website and Panjereh Weekly.[2]
He announced his intention to run for president in 2013 and 2017 but was disqualified both times. He was a candidate for the 2021 presidential election, but subsequently withdrew in favour of Ebrahim Raisi. Zakani, who was also a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, once again withdrew his candidacy, endorsing both Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Saeed Jalili instead.
