Altbach is a municipality in Esslingen in Baden-Württemberg in Germany.

Geography

Altbach is located between 245 and 450 meters above sea level, between the towns of Plochingen and Esslingen am Neckar, in the Neckar Valley.

History

Altbach was first mentioned in the year 783 in the Lorsch Codex. In the 13th century, the Counts of Aichelberg inherited the place and later sold parts of it to the Adelberg Monastery. With the arrival of the Protestant Reformation in 1535, the local rule came under Württemberg. Altbach remained under the control of the Adelberg Monastery.

Since 1806, Altbach has been part of the Upper Administration of Esslingen within the Kingdom of Württemberg.
