Altenau is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is in the Goslar district. The town is in the Harz mountains. The town was originally a mining community. About 1,800 people lived there in 2020. The main religious group is Protestant and the main political parties are CDU and SPD. The town is a health resort and has the largest herb garden in Germany.[2]
