Altenberg is a town in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district. There are 20 municipalities. The main political parties are Freie Wähler Altenberg (FWA) and CDU. The population was about 7,800 in 2021. Tin mining was important in the town in Europe. Attractions include the Great Pinge (Große Pinge), which is collapsed mineshaft. There is also a Altenberg bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track and botanical garden Botanischer Garten Schellerhau.
