Andøy Municipality
Andøy municipality is a Norwegian municipality in Nordland county. The municipality is on the island of Andøya.
It has a population of 4,577 (as of 2023).
Economy
Rockets without people onboard, sometimes get launched from the island. A rocket was launced as early as 18 August 1962; Its goal was to study the ionosphere in the (Arctic) polar area.[1]
Andøya Spaceport opened in 2023.[2] In 2025, the first Spectrum rocket was launched; That flight failed after 25 seconds.[3][4][5]
The air force has an air station [as of 2024], Andøya Air Station.[6]
Administration
The mayor, Kjell-Are Johansen, is elected until late 2027.[7]
