Anton "Toni" Fritsch ( 10 July 1945 - 13 September 2005 ) was an Austrian football player for SK Rapid Wien. He also was an American football player in the National Football League (NFL).He won Super Bowl VI as a kicker with the Dallas Cowboys.

Career

In 1957, Fritsch began his career in Rapid Vienna's youth team. His parents died in 1958. Robert Körner became the young player's mentor. In the spring of 1964 Fritsch made his first appearance for the first team. From 1964 to 1971, Toni Fritsch played a total of 123 league games for Rapid as a winger. He won the Austrian championship three times (1964, 1967, 1968) and the Austrian Cup twice (1968, 1969).

In 1971, Tom Landry, head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, came to Europe looking for a soccer player to play kicker for his team. He brought Toni Fritsch to the USA. There he played American football for the next 14 years. With the Cowboys won Super Bowl VI after the 1971 season and was in the final game of Super Bowl X against the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 1975 season.

With the Cowboys, the field goal specialist won Super Bowl VI after the 1971 season and was in the final game of Super Bowl X against the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 1975 season.


International

The then 20-year-old Fritsch earned his nickname "Wembley Toni" when he scored two goals in a sensational 3-2 victory against England at London's Wembley Stadium on 20 October 1965. This was his first appearance for the Austrian national team. His last match was on 10 November 1968 in a 2-2 draw versus Ireland. He played 9 matches for Austria. <ref>ÖFB players profile.
