Argonia is a city in Sumner County, Kansas, United States. In 2020, 456 people lived there.[3]
History
Argonia was created in 1881. It was named after the ship Argo in Greek mythology.[4] In 1887, Susanna M. Salter became the first woman to win political office in United States history; she was elected Mayor of Argonia.[5]
Geography
Argonia is at 37°15′55″N 97°45′58″W / 37.26528°N 97.76611°W (37.265299, -97.766123).[6] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.70 square miles (1.81 km2). All of it is land.[2]

2020 census
The 2020 census says that there were 456 people, 189 households, and 120 families living in Argonia. Of the households, 69.8% owned their home and 30.2% rented their home.
The median age was 39.5 years. Of the people, 90.1% were White, 1.1% were Native American, 0.7% were Black, 0.7% were from some other race, and 7.5% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.5% of the people.[3][7]

The 2010 census says that there were 501 people, 216 households, and 135 families living in Argonia.[8]
Education
Argonia is part of the Argonia USD 359 school district.[9]

- Susanna M. Salter, former mayor of Argonia, became the first woman elected mayor in the United States in 1887.[10]
