Arul Kanda Kandasamy (born 1977), better known as Arul Kanda, is the former president and chief executive officer (CEO) of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). 1MDB is a company owned by the Ministry of Finance in Malaysia.[1]
He became CEO on 5 January 2015 after Mohd Hazem Abdul Rahman resigned.[2][3]
1MDB has been investigated for moving money in suspicious ways and for possible money laundering. A lawsuit by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) said that at least US$7.5 billion was stolen from 1MDB.[4][5]
In June 2018, Malaysian authorities removed Arul Kanda from his job at 1MDB.[6] Later, on 12 December 2019, he and Najib Razak were charged together for tampering with the 1MDB audit report.[7]
