Ashraf Ali Thanvi was a scholar of the Deobandi movement who was one of the central figures of religious life in South Asia and continues to be highly influential.[2] He wrote many works such as Amal e-Qurani, a famous book that features Qur'an-based spells such as one to cause separation and dislike for two people.[3]
He was a graduate of Darul Uloom Deoband, where he studied the Hanafi madhab and Sufism. That ended in him becoming one of the top scholars of the Deobandi movement.[4] After his studies at at the seminary, he moved to Kanpur and then to Thana Bhawan, where he died.
