Batting average

Batting average is a statistic that is used in cricket and baseball to measure the effectiveness (ability) of batters or baseball hitters.[1]

Cricket

In cricket, a batter's average is the total number of runs they have scored, divided by the number of times they have been dismissed. The statistic is classified by type of cricket—Test, first-class, limited overs, etc. For example, the highest batting average in Test cricket is 99.96 by Don Bradman.

Baseball

In baseball, the batting average, abbreviated BA or sometimes AVG, is defined as the number of hits divided by at bats. For example, if a player had 50 hits over 175 at bats, their batting average would be .286.
