Benzenedicarboxylic acid
In organic chemistry, benzenedicarboxylic acid is a systematic name for a chemical with a benzene ring attached to two carboxylic acid groups.
This chemical has three structural isomers, depending on how far apart the acid groups are on the ring:
- Phthalic acid, when the groups are next to each other
- Isophthalic acid, when they are one carbon apart
- Terephthalic acid, when they are opposite each other
