William John Smith (born December 12, 1950) is a Canadian retired professional ice hockey goaltender. He won four Stanley Cups with the New York Islanders. Smith was credited as the first goaltender to score a goal in the National Hockey League.
He was nicknamed "Battlin' Billy" or "Hatchet Man".
