"Bon Appétit" is a song by American singer Katy Perry. It is from her fifth studio album, Witness. The song features hip-hop group Migos. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 76 and has reached number 59 so far on that chart. The song reached the top twenty in Canada. "Bon Appétit" was certified gold in the US for sales and streams of 500,000 copies.[1]
Composition
"Bon Appétit" from her fifth album Witness is described as a mix of "sexual liberation" and playful, upbeat pop. It's a blend of dance-pop, trap, and Eurodisco styles with a catchy, summery rhythm.[2][3][4] The song features food-related double entendres, with lyrics that suggest both sensual and sexual meanings.[2] For example, when Perry sings "Got me spread like a buffet," it's widely interpreted as a reference to oral sex.[5][6] Critics have compared the song to AC/DC's music, highlighting its energetic, building beat.[7] Musically, it’s in the key of B♭ Phrygian, with Perry’s vocal range spanning from G♭3 to E♭5.[8]
Music video
Dent De Cuir directed the music video, released on May 12, 2017, featuring chef Roy Choi. The video begins with Perry wrapped in plastic, which chefs open and knead her like dough. She is then placed in a meal scenario with different types of food, and Choi serves her to various customers. Migos raps their verses while Perry rings a bell, activating a switch that lets her turn the tables on the patrons. In a scene inspired by the movie Beetlejuice (1988), people are shocked, cooked, and then served by the chefs while Perry dances on a pole. The video ends with Perry being served a pie containing an unusual ingredient from the meal.[9]
