The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, also known as Chicago Booth, is the graduate business school of the University of Chicago, located in Chicago, Illinois. It was formerly called the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.
It is one of the oldest and most respected business schools in the world. Many Nobel Prize winners have taught there, and its graduates include CEOs, political leaders, Nobel winners, and experts in business, finance, and economics.
Booth is the second-oldest business school in the United States,[1] the first to offer an Executive MBA,[2] and the first to offer a PhD in business.[1]
In 2008, the school was renamed after alumnus David G. Booth donated $300 million. It has the third-largest endowment among business schools, after Harvard and Stanford.[3]
Campuses
Chicago Booth's main campus is in Hyde Park, Chicago. It also has campuses in London, Singapore, and downtown Chicago on the Magnificent Mile.
History
The school started in 1898 as the College of Commerce and Politics, created by professor James Laurence Laughlin. The school changed its name to Graduate School of Business in 1959 and to Booth School of Business in 2008.
Booth played a major role in the development of the Chicago School of Economics, which supports free markets and limited government intervention.
