Bryan Nigel Allen (born August 21, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played parts of 15 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks, and Montreal Canadiens. He also played for Khimik Voskresensk of the Russian Superleague (RSL).
Career
Before playing in the NHL, Allen played four seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
He was selected 4th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1998 NHL entry draft. He was then sent down to play for their AHL=affiliate Manitoba Moose. On February 26, 2001, the Canucks called Allen up and he made his NHL debut in a 5–2 win against the Minnesota Wild.[1] On October 10, 2002, Allen scored his first NHL goal against Roman Turek in a 3–0 win against the Calgary Flames.[2]
On June 23, 2006, the Canucks traded Allen along with Todd Bertuzzi and Alex Auld to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Roberto Luongo, Lukáš Krajíček and a 2006 sixth-round draft pick.[3] He had a successful time on the Panthers, setting career highs in both assists with 21 and points with 25.
On February 28, 2011, the Panthers traded Allen to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Sergei Samsonov.[4] He played parts of two seasons with them.
On July 1, 2012, Allen signed a three-year contract to join the Anaheim Ducks.[5] He played 6 games with them and recorded 1 point.
On November 20, 2014, the Ducks traded Allen to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Rene Bourque.[6]
He retired from playing professional ice hockey in 2015.
