On 8 May 2025, Pope Leo XIV became the pope. He kept the same coat of arms and motto that he used as a bishop.
Coat of arms
The coat of arms shows the Pope’s love for Jesus, Mary, and the Church. It also shows that he is from the Order of Saint Augustine.
Shield
The shield has two parts:[1][2]
- The top part is blue. It has a white lily. The lily means the Virgin Mary.
- The bottom part has a light color. It shows a red heart on a closed book. An arrow goes through the heart. This is from Saint Augustine. He said God’s word touched his heart.
Motto
The Latin motto is In Illo Uno Unum. It means: "In the One, we are one." It comes from Saint Augustine. It means Christians are one in Jesus Christ.[2][3][4]

Meaning
