The Columbus Mudcats were a Minor League Baseball team from Columbus, Georgia, that played from 1969 to 1990.[1] They played baseball at the Double-A (AA) level, the second-most difficult level before Major League Baseball (MLB), against other baseball teams in the Southern League.[1] Their home stadium was called Golden Park.[2] The Mudcats were partnered with two MLB teams: the Chicago White Sox (1969) and Houston Astros (1970–1990). [1]
They were called the Columbus White Sox in 1969 during their partnership with the Chicago White Sox. They changed their name to the Columbus Astros in 1970 when they partnered with the Houston Astros. They became known as the Columbus Mudcats in 1989.[1]
The Astros won the Southern League championship in 1986.[3] The team moved to Zebulon, North Carolina, after the 1989 season where it continued to play as the Carolina Mudcats.
