Didban Iran (دیدبان ایران, lit. "Watchman of Iran") is an independent news website in Tehran, Iran. It publishes news in Persian. The site was started in 2015 by Saeid Seif, who is also the editor-in-chief.[1]

In 2023, the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance ranked Didban Iran as the 13th top news website in the country.[2][3]

Because of its investigative reports, some media call Didban Iran the "Iranian WikiLeaks".[4]

History

Didban Iran was created in 2015 in Tehran by Saeid Seif. It has a license from the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. The website publishes political, social, cultural, economic, and sports news.[5]

Government bans

  • May 2024: The site was blocked for 22 days after reports on corruption at Debsh Tea company.[6][7]
  • March–April 2025: The site was blocked for more than 40 days after an interview with Mohsen Rafighdoost about political assassinations.[8]

Arrests

  • December 2022: Saeid Seif was arrested for covering protests.[9]
  • April 2023: He was arrested again for supporting demonstrators.[10]
  • December 2024: He was arrested for two weeks after publishing interviews about corruption.[11]

Investigations

  • Bank Refah (2024): Reported the disappearance of €35 million. The courts later cleared the site.[12]
  • Tehran Municipality (2025): Reported a 17 trillion toman budget gap. The courts acquitted the website after lawsuits.[13]
  • Electric bus contracts (2023–2024): Reported irregular deals with Chinese companies.[14]
  • Political assassinations (2025): Published an interview with Mohsen Rafighdoost about killings of opposition figures.[15]
  • Water mafia (2025): Interview with Issa Kalantari about corruption in water management.[16]
