Dominique François Joseph Mamberti (Born, 7 March 1952), better known as Dominique Mamberti, is a French Catholic cardinal, diplomat and canonist. Currently is the Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura in the Roman Curia.

Biography

Early Years and Education

Born in the Moroccan capital, Marrakech, on March 7, 1952, he moved with his family to France during his childhood, residing on the island of Corsica. Years later, he went on to study at the seminary.

Priesthood

He was ordained a priest on September 20, 1981, by Bishop Jean-Charles Thomas of the Diocese of Ajaccio. There he earned doctorates in civil and canon law.

Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura

On 8 November 2014, Pope Francis appointed Mamberti as Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, the final court of appeal for any ecclesiastical judgment, besides the Pope himself. Mamberti succeeded Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke, who was named patron to the Order of Malta.[2]
