"Don't Stand So Close to Me" is a 1980 song by The Police. It is the lead single on their third studio album Zenyatta Mondatta. It went to number 1 in Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom, number 2 in Canada and New Zealand, number 3 in Australia, Italy, the Netherlands and South Africa, number 8 in Belgium, number 9 in Norway and number 10 in the United States. It won a Grammy Award in 1982.

The song was re-recorded in 1986 with a new brooding arrangement with a different chorus and more opulent production. It went to number 1 in Spain, number 11 in Ireland, number 13 in Finland, number 14 in New Zealand, number 19 in the Netherlands and number 24 in the United Kingdom.
