Elizabeth (biblical figure)

Elizabeth (also spelled Elisabeth) was the mother of John the Baptist. She was the wife of Zechariah.

The angel Gabriel said to Zechariah that Elizabeth would have a son. Zechariah did not believe that his wife could have a son, because she was old. The angel made him mute (unable to speak). Elizabeth then became pregnant.
