Figment is a Disney character. He is the mascot of the Imagination! pavilion at the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World.[1]
Figment was created by Disney Imagineer Tony Baxter.[2]
Characteristics
Figment is a small purple dragon. He has large, bat-like wings, a long, curly tail and big yellow eyes.[3] He is often depicted wearing a yellow and red shirt or jacket, representing the colors of Kodak, the pavilion's original sponsor.[4]
Original attraction
On March 3, 1983, Figment made his first appearance in the Journey into Imagination attraction at Epcot.[5] The attraction was designed to showcase the power of imagination and creativity. Guests boarded a "Dreamfinder" vehicle and traveled through a series of imaginative scenes, accompanied by the Dreamfinder and his friend Figment.
Popularity
Figment has become a staple of the Disney brand, and an icon of the Disney theme park experience. He appears in a variety of merchandise (from plush toys and t-shirts to coffee mugs and keychains), media (including books, comics, and even a television special), and attractions.
