The flag of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands features a star (representing the United States), a latte stone (representing the Chamorros), and a mwarmwar (wreath; represents the Carolinians). These symbols are all on a blue background which represents the Pacific Ocean and the Mariana Trench. The flag was adopted in 1985.
