Floris IV (Count of Holland)

Floris IV (24 June 1210 – 19 July 1234) was the count of Holland from 1222 to 1234. He was born in The Hague, a son of William I of Holland and his first wife, Adelaide of Guelders.

History

He was born in The Hague, 24. of June 1210, and his father William I, died when he was 12 years old, in 1222. He began expanding the land, taking Atlena.

1222-1234

He had a conflict with Otto II, bishop of Utrecht, he aided Otto against the peasants in 1227. In 1234 participated in a crusade against the Stedinger people near Bremen in 1234. He also died at a young age of 24, dead in a tournament in Corbie, France on July 19. 1234.

Family

Floris IV married Mathilda of Brabant in 1224, being 14 years old. He had a child with her William II, who became Count of Holland, and king of the Romans. His parents were Adelaide of Guelders and William I.
