Franz Hofer (4 September 1918 – 16 December 1990) was an Austrian football player. He played as forward mainly for SK Rapid Wien.
Career
Hofer was a member of SK Rapid Wien since 1937/38 season. At the end of the season he and his club won the championship. From 1938 to 1941, he played in the Gauliga Ostmark, and from 1941 to 1945 in the Gauliga Donau-Alpenland. The Gauliga was the highest division in the German Reich during the Nazi era. During this time, he won the Gauliga championship twice with SK Rapid Wien. As a result, he also participated in the final round of the German championship. 1941 Rapid became German champions. He also won the Tschammerpokal with SK Rapid Wien in 1938. In 1944, as a soldier, Hofer played alongside Franz "Bimbo" Binder for the Deutsche Sportgemeinschaft Reichshof, which had been founded by the German occupiers in the Polish city of Rzeszów, and participated in the 1943/44 Gauliga Generalgouvernement championship. After the end of World War II, he ended his active football career by playing the 1945/46 season for Slovan Wien.
International
He played his only international match for the German Reich on 27 August 1939 in Bratislava in a 2-0 defeat against the Slovakian national team.
