Günther Neukirchner (born 2 December 1971 in Grambach, Austria) is a former Austrian football defender. He spent most of his career at SK Sturm Graz. He also played for the Austrian national football team.
Career
The Styrian has been playing for Graz since 1980. He played in the youth team, then the amateurs, and later in the first team. He became an all-rounder because he wasn't used in his usual position as a striker. Therefore he often switched to other positions. He has played every position in the Bundesliga so far, except goalkeeper.
On 30 August 2006, it was announced on the club's website that Neukirchner was ending his playing career. Neukirchner signed a contract with FC Gratkorn in the second-tier First League. In the summer of 2007 he ended his playing career there after 16 appearances and scoring one goal. With 426 matches, Günther Neukirchner played the second most games for SK Sturm Graz.
International
Neukirchner made his debut for the Austrian national team on 19 August 1998, in a 2-2 draw against France in Vienna. [1] His last match was a 1-2 loss versus Switzerland on 15 August 2001. He made a total of 14 international appearances and scored one goal.[2]
