Gem is a city in Thomas County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, 98 people lived there.[3]
History
Gem was a shipping point on the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad.[4] The town was named from the Gem Ranch.[5]
The first post office in Gem was created in 1885.[6] It was closed in March 2014.
Geography
Gem is at 39°25′33″N 100°53′47″W / 39.42583°N 100.89639°W (39.425730, -100.896294).[7]
According to the United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.33 square miles (0.85 km2). All of it is land.[2]

2020 census
The 2020 census says that there were 98 people, 37 households, and 28 families living in Gem. Of the households, 78.4% owned their home and 21.6% rented their home.
The median age was 34.0 years. Of the people, 88.8% were White, 3.1% were Asian, 1.0% were Black, and 7.1% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.1% of the people.[3][8]
2010 census
The 2010 census says that there were 88 people, 36 households, and 26 families living in the city.[9]
