The Genesis G70 was previewed by the New York concept at the New York International Auto Show in 2016.[5] The car was later launched in 2017 in the global launch event in olympic park in Seoul.[6] The car was designed by Peter Schreyer that worked previously in Audi and developed later the Kia Stinger (that shares its platform with the G70).[7] The car has a 2.0 liter a 2.5 and a 3.3 turbo liter V6 gasoline engines and a 2.2 liter diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission and a 8-speed automatic transmission.

In 2020 it was facelifted in North America. The facelift was praised but in South Korea it was criticized with some people saying the pre-facelift was better.
