Giant Tiger Stores Limited is a Canadian chain of discount stores. They have headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario. They have around 265 stores in Canada.[1] In Ontario, the store is known as GTExpress and Scott's Discount and in Quebec it is known as Tigre Géant. Their mascot is a giant anthropomorphic tiger named Friendly.
On May 13, 1961, salesman Gordon Reid opened the first Giant Tiger store at ByWard Market in Ottawa, Ontario.[2] In 1968, Giant Tiger decided to adopt a franchise model for their business.[3]
On November 11, 2022, CEO Paul Wood left the company.[4] On September 27, 2023, Gino DiGioacchino was named as the new president and CEO.[5]
