Grow a Garden is a farming game on Roblox. It came out on March 26, 2025.[1]
The game became very popular. In July 2025, it had over 21 million players online at the same time. This was a new record for the number of players in a single game at the same time.[2]
As of August 1st, the game has over 21 billion visits and around 6.6 million favorites.[3]
Gameplay
Players start with an empty farm and buy carrot seeds using in-game money called "Sheckles". Crops grow even when the player is not online. By harvesting crops, players earn more money and unlock better seeds.[4]
There are weekly events with special items. Some items are only available for a short time.[5] Players can also get pets and use Robux (Roblox money) to get more rewards or even steal crops from other players.[6]
History
The game was made by a 16-year-old developer called "BMWLux".[7]
Later, Janzen "Jandel" Madsen and his studio Splitting Point joined the project. Do Big Studios also helped, but were criticized for adding too much monetization.[8]
Updates like the "Bizzy Bees" and "Summer Update" helped the game break records. On June 21, 2025, the game reached 21.3 million players online at once.[9]
Users said the player numbers might be boosted by bots. But Roblox said the growth was real.[10]
For the game's July 26 "Corruption Update", Jandel had an event which included a NFL football player Travis Kelce joining the game.[11] The game's CCU record is 22.3 million, achieved on August 23, 2025, based on results by RoTrends.[12]
Opinions
Many websites said the game is simple but very fun. Some writers were surprised that it became more popular than games on Steam.[13] Zack Zwiezen of Kotaku said it looked more like a test game than a finished one.[14]
