Harold Baines

Harold Douglas Baines (born March 15, 1959) is a former American baseball player. He played as a designated hitter and right fielder in Major League Baseball. He played from 1980 to 2001 for five American League teams. Baines is known for playing three times with the Chicago White Sox. Baines is from Maryland and also played seven years with his hometown team, the Baltimore Orioles.[1]

Baines was known for being consistent and strong in important moments. When he retired, he was seventh in AL history for most games played.[1] He was also known for power hitting. He hit 13 grand slams, had three games with three home runs, and 10 walk-off home runs.[2]

After retiring, he worked as a coach for the White Sox. Later, he became a team ambassador and spring training coach.[3]

In 2019, Baines was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.[4]

Life

Harold Baines grew up in Saint Michaels, Maryland. He lived with his father, Linwood, who worked with stone. Baines had three brothers and one sister.[5]
