Hazara District

Hazara District was an old district of Peshawar Division in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan until 1976. It was the most northerly part of the division and covered an area of about 3,000 sq mi (7,770 km2).[1] It was a long narrow shape, about 40 mi (64 km) wide and about 120 mi (193 km) long.[1] During British rule, it separated Kashmir from the independent hill areas. After Britain left in 1947 these independent hill areas were part of Pakistan just like Hazara. The main cities were Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Nawashahr and Baffa.[1] It is now renamed as the Hazara Division.
