Herminie, Pennsylvania
Herminie is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sewickley Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 718 at the 2020 census.[1] The area was built as a mining town.[2] Herminie is located at 40°15′47″N 79°42′53″W / 40.263150°N 79.714675°W.[3]
Herminie was founded in 1893 as a coal mining community by the Ocean Coal Company—a subsidiary of Berwind-White Coal Co. It was named after Herminie Berwind, the wife of company president Charles Berwind. The town was a focal point for significant coal strikes in 1910–1911 and 1922.
Notable people from the town include jazz pianist Sonny Clark and Lt. Joe Kenda, a retired detective and TV personality. Herminie is located at 40°15′47″N 79°42′53″W.
