Hidasnémeti
Hidasnémeti is a village in Gönc District in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Hungary. In 2024, 1,000 people lived there.
Location
It is in the Hernád Valley, on the right side of the river, near the Slovak border, about 60 kilometers northeast of Miskolc.
History
The village was likely started in the 12th century by German settlers along with nine other nearby villages.
Population
In 2022, 81.4% of the population identified as Hungarian, 20.3% as Slovak, 17.1% as Roma, 0.2% as German, 0.1% as Rusyn, and 1.3% as other non-native nationalities (5% did not respond; due to dual identities, the total may exceed 100%). According to their religion, 36.6% were Roman Catholic, 17% Reformed, 4.3% Greek Catholic, 0.7% other Christian, 1% Lutheran, 13% non-denominational (26.6% did not respond).[1]
Sport
The village sports club, HVSC (Hidasnémeti Vasutas Sport Club), was founded in 1949. The sports club now (2025) has four sections: men's football, chess, volleyball, and wrestling.[2][3]
