Imke de Jong (1932 – 24 January 2025) was a Dutch footballer player who played as a defender. He played with Heerenveen from 1950 to 1954 and became Northern Football Champion. He was also a professional football referee.

Biography

De Jong was born in 1932. He made his debut for Heerenveen in 1950 at the age of 18. The team competed at the Northern Football Championship, the former highest football competition in the north of the Netherlands, and became champion with the team in 1951. He played on the team with among others the iconic Abe Lenstra. In 1954 De Jong left the team and moved to Zwolle to become a police officer there. He wanted to play as a semi-professional footballer at PEC Zwolle, but however the police commissioner did not allow that. He played with amateur club CSV '28 and later WVF. He also became a football referee. He was for two seasons referee at the Dutch highest professional level.[1][2]

De Jong died on 24 January 2025, at the age of 92.[1][2]
