The first-generation JAC Refine M5 was launched in 2002, and was essentially a rebadged Hyundai Starex. This was the result of a joint venture between Hyundai and JAC, under which JAC produced the Hyundai Starex under license. Initially marketed as the JAC Refine, the model was later renamed the JAC Refine M5 as part of the broader JAC Refine series.[1]
The Refine M5 was available with a 2.0-liter petrol engine (naturally aspirated or turbocharged), a 2.4-liter petrol engine, or a 2.8-liter diesel engine. Transmission options included a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic, with the latter receiving improvements in later models.
