Jan Oudenaarden (26 May 1943 – 18 January 2025) was a Dutch writer, poet, historian and columnist. He wrote over 40 books, mainly about Rotterdam, including the history of Rotterdam and the history of Feyenoord. He was awarded with the Laurenspenning (1993) and Erasmusspeld (2007)
Biography
Oudenaarden was born in Rotterdam on 26 May 1943.[1] He studied Dutch law at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.[2]
He wrote Wat zeggie? Azzie val dan leggie! (1984) and De terugkeer van Opoe Herfst (1986) about the dialect of Rotterdam.[3] He wrote also about Pietje Bell and about the history of Rotterdam (including Rotterdam (2015), Rotterdam 650 jaar (Rotterdam 650 years)).[2] Between 2016 and 2023 he wrote a five-part history series about Feyenoord entitled De geschiedenis van Feyenoord (The history of Feyenoord).[4] For his historical and cultural services to the city of Rotterdam, he received the Laurenspenning (Laurens Award) in 1993 and the Erasmusspeld (Erasmus Award) in 2007.[2] He also worked as a columnist for RTV Rijnmond and was founder of "Het Rotterdammologisch Instituut" (Rotterdammological Institute).[2][3]
Oudenaarden lived in the Rotterdam district Vreewijk.[2] He died on 18 January 2025, at the age of 81.[5][6]
