Jiya Shankar is an Indian actress. She is best known for her role as Dr. Ira Pandey in the comedy-drama show Meri Hanikarak Biwi on &TV, and as Susheela Ruhail Solanki in the comedy show Kaatelal & Sons on SAB TV. In 2022, she acted in a Marathi movie called Ved. She also played the main character in the supernatural drama Pishachini on Colors TV.

She also worked as a co-host on the show Good Night India on SAB TV. She took part as a contestant in Bigg Boss OTT 2 and was evicted on Day 54, just three days before the grand finale.

Early life

Shankar was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her mother's name is Surekha Gavli. Her parents got divorced when she was 13 years old.[1][2] In Bigg Boss OTT 2, she shared that 'Shankar' is not her father's name, but a last name she chose for herself.[3]

Career

Shankar started her acting career in 2013 with a Telugu movie called Entha Andanga Unnave, where she acted with Ajay Manthena.[4] In 2017, she acted in a Tamil movie called Kanavu Variyam with Arun Chidambaram.[5] She made her TV debut in 2015, playing Alisha Rai in Love by Chance on Bindass channel, opposite Karan Singhmar. In 2016, she got her first big break on TV by playing a lead role as Shreya Dixit Rathore in Queens Hain Hum on &TV.

Shankar recently played the role of Susheela Ruhail Solanki in the SAB TV show Kaatelal & Sons, opposite Paras Arora.[6] In August 2022, she acted as Pavitra in the Colors TV show Pishachini, opposite Harsh Rajput.

She was recently seen playing the role of Nisha Katkar in the movie Ved, along with Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia Deshmukh. By January 2023, this romantic thriller had earned ₹75 crore at the box office. She was praised for her emotional acting and for being a fresh new face in the Marathi film industry. In June 2023, Shankar took part in the reality show Bigg Boss OTT 2 and finished in 6th place.[7]
