John Meurig Thomas
Sir John Meurig Thomas or JMT FLSW FRS HonFREng HonFRSE FRMS (15 December 1932 – 13 November 2020) was a Welsh scientist, educator, university administrator, and historian. He was known for his work on heterogeneous catalysis, solid-state chemistry, and surface and materials science.[1][2]
From 1986 to 1991, he was Director of the Royal Institution. In 1989, he was elected a member of the Academia Europaea.[3] In 2016, he was awarded the Royal Medal. Thomas was born in Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Thomas died on 13 November 2020, at the age of 87.[4]
