John Martin Stapleton (24 February 1946 – 21 September 2025) was an English journalist and broadcaster.

Works

He was best known for his work as a presenter, newsreader and reporter on ITV breakfast television formerly (TV-am, GMTV, Daybreak and the programmes's successor Good Morning Britain), as well as hosting Nationwide and Watchdog for the BBC.

Death

In October 2024, Stapleton announced that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.[1]

Stapleton died at a hospital on 21 September 2025 from pneumonia caused by Parkinson's at the age of 79.[2]
