Juan Carlos Maqueda (born December 29, 1949) is an Argentine lawyer, judge, and politician. In 2002, he became a Justice of the Supreme Court of Argentina. He was a justice until December 27, 2024.[1]

Biography

Maqueda studied law at the Catholic University of Córdoba. In 1977, he became a professor there. From 1980 to 1986, he was a technical secretary there.

He specialized in constitutional law and political science. He began his political career in 1974 as Director of Culture for the Municipality of Córdoba. Later he was a provincial deputy (1987-1991), a national deputy (1991-1999), and Minister of Education of Córdoba (1999).

In 2001, Maqueda was elected national senator. He resigned from the Senate in December 2002. He became Supreme Court Justice that same month, a position he held until 2024.

Health

In 2004, Maqueda had emergency heart surgery. In 2014, he went to the Argentine Institute of Diagnosis and Treatment after fainting during an event held at the Italian Embassy. On October 15, 2022, he went to the Fernández Hospital for "minor trauma" after being hit by a cyclist.
