Kazuki Takahashi (高橋 和希, Takahashi Kazuki, also known as Kazuo Takahashi (高橋 一雅, Takahashi Kazuo); October 4, 1961 – July 4, 2022)[1][2][3] was a Japanese manga artist and game creator. He was best known for creating Yu-Gi-Oh!.
On July 4, 2022, a rip current pulled Takahashi away while he was trying to save the lives of others. It was discovered that his cause of death was drowning. Authorities said there were injuries on his abdomen and lower body, possibly caused by bites from a shark or other sea animals. [4][5]On July 6, 2022, Takahashi was found dead off the shore of Nago, Japan.[6] Takahashi had been wearing snorkeling gear at the time of his death. In a military report, a U.S. Army major described the artist as “a hero” who “died trying to save someone else”.[7]
