Kero Kero Keroppi

Keroppi, also known as Kero Kero Keroppi and Keroppi Hasunoue (はすの上 けろっぴ, Hasunoue Keroppi), is a Japanese frog character. His last name, Hasunoue, means "on the lotus" in Japanese. Typically dressed in a green or red-striped shirt, he has large eyes and a V-shaped mouth.^[1] He was created in 1987 for the Japanese company Sanrio as part of a promotion for the rainy season. He was designed by Tomoe Iwata.^[1] Japanese designs often include puns and wordplay on the word for frog, kaeru (かえる).^[2] The first Keroppi items were released in June 1988. He won first place in a popularity vote by Sanrio in 1990 and was particularly popular in the UK during this time, but his popularity went down over time.^[3] In the 2025 Sanrio character ranking, Keroppi won 14th place, with 1,809,818 votes.^[4]

Keroppi's birthday is July 10th,^[5] and he lives on the edge of Donut Pond^[6] with his siblings Koroppi and Pikki, who are triplets. Keroppi and Koroppi look so alike that only their family and friends can tell them apart.^[2] His father, Keroppa, is a doctor at the Hasunoue Clinic and his mother, Keroma, runs a small restaurant.^[7] Keroppi likes his mother's rice. He has a girlfriend named Keroleen. He likes adventuring, and his talents are swimming, playing with boomerangs, baseball, and singing. Keroppi is friends with Den Den, a snail, and Teruteru, a teru teru bōzu.

Keroppi has appeared in video games, including Kero Kero Keroppi no Bouken Nikki, Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken, Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken 2: Donuts Ike ha Oosawagi, Sanrio World Smash Ball!, and Hello Kitty Island Adventure. In Japanese, Keroppi was voiced by Yoshiko Matsuo. In English, he was voiced by Jill Frappier in Keroppi and Friends, Kira Vincent-Davis in Hello Kitty's Animation Theater, Sarah Hauser in The Adventures of Hello Kitty and Friends, and Georgie Kidder in Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures^[8].

He is briefly depicted on a clock in a flashback in an episode the television show Lost.
