Ko Wen-je (Chinese: 柯文哲; pinyin: Kē Wénzhé; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Koa Bûn-tiat; born 6 August 1959) is a Taiwanese surgeon and independent politician. Ko was the Mayor of Taipei from 2014 to 2022.[1]

Before becoming the mayor, he was a doctor at the National Taiwan University Hospital. He was also a professor at National Taiwan University College of Medicine.[2]

He sued Ethan Gutmann for defamation in 2020.[3] [4] [5]

He was a candidate for President of the Republic of China in the 2024 election, but did not win.

Ko is the founder of the Taiwan Peoples Party.

He was arrested in late 2024 after an investigation into corruption. [6]
