KwaZulu-Natal Coastal men's cricket team
The KwaZulu-Natal Coastal (formerly Natal and KwaZulu-Natal) men's cricket team, based in Durban, has been active since 1886.[1] The team has first-class status. They have competed in South Africa's national championship, currently known as the CSA 4-Day Series, since the 1893–94 season. They have won the trophy 22 times, most recently in 2022–23. The team was called Natal until 1997–98,[2] and was then renamed KwaZulu-Natal.[3] When the provincial teams were disbanded in 2004, to be replaced by franchises, the one based in Durban was named the Dolphins. On their return to the CSA 4-Day Series in 2021, KwaZulu-Natal retained "Dolphins" as their nickname. They had added Coastal to their name in 2019 after KwaZulu-Natal Inland became a first-class team.[4] Coastal's home ground is the Kingsmead Stadium, which opened in January 1923.[5]
