Ladislav Maier (born 4 January 1966 in Boskovice) is a former Czech football goalkeeper and current goalkeeper coach.

Career

He played for different clubs in the Czech league. In 1998, at the age of 32, he moved from Slovan Liberec to Rapid Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga. Initially viewed with skepticism by many fans, Maier demonstrated his skills, saving two penalties in his first game. He quickly became a fan favorite and an idol for many young Austrian goalkeepers. In his seven-year career at Rapid, he appeared in a total of 151 league matches, 13 cup matches, and 21 European Cup matches.

For four years, from 1998 to 2002, Ladislav Maier was the number 1 in goal for Rapid. From 2002 onwards, however, he increasingly had to make way for the young goalkeeper Helge Payer. The highlight of his career was the Austrian championship in the 2004/05 season, . After the end of the season he ended his active career as a footballer.

International

Maier played seven matches for the Czech national team between 1995 and 2001.

Managing career

After his playing career, Maier became sporting director at his former club Slovan Liberec. Then he was assistant coach at Polish first division club Piast Gliwice. From 2018 on he was goalkeeper coach of the Czech U21 team. He is currently goalkeeper coach at FK Pribram in the 3rd Czech League. [1]
