The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in Sri Lanka. It was first held in 2020. Its members are five franchise teams representing the Sri Lankan cities of Colombo, Dambulla, Galle, Jaffna, and Kandy.[1][2]
History
The Lanka Premier League should have begun in August 2018, but it was postponed because of disruption within Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the sport's governing body in Sri Lanka. Plans were made to launch the competition in August 2020, but it had to be postponed again because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was finally launched on 26 November 2020.
Ahead of the 2025 tournament, the competing teams are Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy Falcons. Their locations can be seen in the map at right.
